Sek Yuen Restaurant @ Pudu

A gem at Pudu, KL. A restaurant that manage to maintain the 50's feel in this city. A restaurant that is a well known among the local folks. A restaurant where we can still see waiters wearing white shirt and black pants, just like what we normally see in 50's cantonese drama.

I saw torn and faded table cloth, but who cares? You are not goin to eat the cloth...
They have 2 shops with similar signboard. 1 with air-cond, 1 not. If you want to feel more nostalgia, probably you can choose to dine at non air-cond area...

There were 8 of us. I have read from bloggers on food recommendation and knew what to ordered before we went there....

Their specialty
Pei Pa Duck
We only ordered half as we had another duck dish later on.
Roasted perfectly, lean meat and i like the crispy skin. Definitely can beat those roasted duck sold outside...

Another specialty
Pat Po Duck a.k.a Eight Treasure Duck
Gotta order this in advance as it requires plenty cooking time...

Treasures in there...
we found ginkgo, mushrooms, roasted meat, lotus seeds and so on.
The duck has been braised to perfection, and all of us gave a thumbs up for the gravy. Very good to pair it with rice.
Kwai Fa Egg
Basically is eggs with sharkfin, and wrapped in lettuce.
This is a very traditional dish, where we normally find in the 4 treasure plate normally served in any wedding in outstation area. I have never encounter such dish in any restaurant in KL though...
It was fragrant with the eggy smell, but i found it lacked of taste, and requested for chili sauce...hehe...

Fatt Poot
Yam Ring
Basically is yam paste fried in a big ring form, and laden with stir-fry items . The yam was really really good. Crispy skin yet was mushy enough, flavourful!
My family members are all fans of this, gotta recommend to them, especially my dad.
Kar Heong vegetables
A medley of wood ear, dry lily bulbs, soohoon, bean curd slices, shredded cabbage etc, fried with nam yue (red color kinds of fermented tofu). The nam yue gave this a very robust flavour, many liked it...

Sea cucumber braised with 猪筋
In my personal opinion, the sea cucumber was a little way too soggy. Perhaps over-braised? Nonetheless, the 猪筋 was "Q" enough....

My ex-ex- colleagues!
It was very nice to see you guys here, bidding farewell to me. Such a long time since we last had our gathering...
My god! 3 kids joined us on that day, like giving those unmarried people like Mie, a little bit of pressure ehhh? Haha!
Sek Yuen
313 and 315, Jalan Pudu, KL
03-9222 9457

A place that does not need good food presentation but still manage to capture my heart. Sek Yuen, you are the one (among many :P)

My Farewell (X)

On my last day in office, the witty Natalie wanted to buy me lunch and asked my opinion where to go. I really miss local food so i suggested Yap Hup Kee yong tau foo @ Pudu. I really love theire chee cheong fun!

This time, i chose to have the ccf with curry sauce.
Laden with dried shrimp, it was a goodness in a small bowl...

There were 4 of us, we chose to have fried beancurd sheets, pork balls, bittergourds, tofu and the everly sinful, braised-fried intestines! I really recommend the fried intestines!

Oh well, another reason why i chose to go Pudu is for over 8 dozens of egg tarts from Tong Kee!
I really wanted to buy something for the friends in the Firm before i leave, so i guess a piece of nice egg tart would be perfect!

Silky smooth fillings and flaky crust...
Yum Yum!

I hope you guys enjoyed the egg tart ehh!

My Farewell (IX)

15 April 2010 was my last day in the Firm. I reserved the dinner session for my group members. Thank you Esther who gathered so many people for this dinner. I had fun...and i could see that everyone was having fun too....
They were so happy...why ah?

I really like steamboat. I think i will miss this very much after i go to Singapore...
We were at HO HO Steamboat @ Segambut. I wanted to come here for a special dish actually...

Some extra ingredients we ordered.
Fish slices, pork bacon and some balls...

This is it! The special dish that i mentioned.
Crab roe!
Not cheap, but we had around 20 pax that day so it wouldn't hurt too much...haha....
The fresh roe looked so fake to me actually. I wonder was it really from the crabs....

Cook, cook, cook
Boil, boil, boil

Thank you girls and guys! We had wonderful night that time!
The boss even gave us some free Heineken so we used that to pose! Haha...
See you guys around soon! Good luck to all!

My Farewell Treat (V)

Friday night, a super jam night after heavy downpour around 4-5 pm. Finished my work and waited for Kim Nyean to come back to office. Straight away headed to Pavilion for our dinner ... already almost 8pm...
I chose to have dinner at Ying Ker Lou, where they have opened new branches in Pavilion and the Gardens. A restaurant specialing in hakka cuisine, always a place that i wanted to try but never step in...

We ordered green tea
It came with a very unique pot with 2 small chinese cups. Very refreshing cos it's not a tea bag, real green tea leaves were used here...
By the way the tea pot was very very heavy...
Me at China ^_^
I had a WonderFULLL dinner here so let's see what we ordered...

Hakka Braised Pork with Black fungus with noodles
Noodles were springy enough. I had a small piece of the pork and found it a bit dry, nevertheless it's still flavourful with the "Nam Yue" taste...And i like the black fungus :)

Ginger egg with chinese yellow wine 黄酒姜蛋
Very strong taste of wine and i like they way they fried the egg, not dry and soft enough.... best eaten with rice and very appetising..
客家算盘子
This is a rather special dish that is already seldom seen being sold in town. It requires a lot of effort to cook this, that's why the serving is pretty small given its price...
Made from yam, and this was the dish that we liked the most cos it's very Q and full of wok-hei...

Hakka Lei-Cha with Brown rice
This turned out to be my favourite dish, i liked the freshness and healthy feeling after eating this. Some people couldn't stand the "green" taste (eg Kim Nyean..hehe..) but i like it so much....
However, we ordered too much (i should say HE ordered too much :P) and i didn't manage to finish this awesome dish...
What a waste!
Another of their recommended dish
A kind of tofu with fish paste on top...
Not too bad...

A table full of goodness for only 2 of us

Thanks Kim Nyean for the treat!
I will never forget this WonderFull dining experience! Haha...

My Farewell Treat (IV)

Friday came so fast, didn't have much breakfast in order to leave some space for 2 farewell treats in a day! Chose to have a casual lunch somewhere nearby office so we headed to Delicious at Dua Annexe, Jalan Tun Razak...
Frosty Lychee & Lime
Watermelon & Lychee Blast
and my Mango, Lychee & Kaffir Blast
I liked the mango and lychee combination, and they are generous enough to provide the ingredients. Very cooling and refreshing!

With Daniel
One of my many good friends in CH

With Connie
A very sporting and cheerful girl...

Garden greens with house dressing
Wild mushroom soup with garlic bread
These are orders made by Connie, already so slim still eat so little!!! Haha....
Anyway, i tried the mushroom soup before and really like it cos it's thick enough with loads of wild mushroom chunks..

Daniel's Duck Confit Spaghettini
Dan's favourite but a little small portion for him, so i shared half portion of mine to him =)

Marsala Lamb Shank with Nasi Pilaf, Cucumber Raita & Papadum
Lamb shank was braised to perfection, tender meat and juicy enough. Coupled with the aromatic pilaf rice (with some kind of nuts) and refreshing cucumber, it made the meal a wholesome goodness! It's a rather big portion, lucky i had Daniel to share it...haha...

We ended the meal with their signature
Chocolate Brownie with chocolate sauce & Vanilla ice-cream
Sinful enough yet we couldn't say no to this!

Thanks Connie and Daniel for the treat!
Miss you guys soon!

My Farewell Treat (III)

Knowing me leaving KL soon to Singapore for good, Joey came to look for me for lunch last Thursday, together with Mandy. We were at Pasarakyat to savour our favourite dish, steam fish head!

It took quite some time for the food to arrive so we had a piece of fried Nian Gao. This stall selling fried Nian Gao is very famous, it was previously located at Imbi Restoran Wing Heng Seng. I saw they were having brisk business as many people queing to buy it after having meals...
I am a fan of fried Nian Gao but never dare to have much due to its high level of fats. This piece cut into 4 quarters was perfect! Like its crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's actually a very big piece of fried Nian Gao itself. Lucky it's shared among 3 of us...

Their famous dish
Steam fish head 清蒸鱼头
Love its simplicity, dash of soya sauce with hints of chinese wine and lots of cili padi...
Fish head was steamed perfectly and quite fresh... Lots of Omega too!

We also had veges, 三皇蛋 and 蒸猪肉
While veges were just normal, the steamed egg was very soft. Wonder what's the trick behind. The 蒸猪肉was mixed with some salted fish. I didn't have too much of it cos i didn't have rice that day so eating it on its own was very salty ..

3 of us managed to finish the fish head, and "almost" finish the rest. 4 dishes for 3 of us were a little bit too much actually..haha
Thanks Joey for your treat!

My Farewell Treat (II)

CSU3 managers friend asked me out for my farewell treat on last Wednesday. I am very touched that all of them were there for me!!! I have known most of them since the first day i joined this firm, and really happy that they still remember me even though they are extremely busy with works and we are no longer in the same group!
We had lunch at Nippon Tei, KLCC last Wednesday. Not sure whether there were any big events in KLCC that day but we had problems in finding parkings. Parking is always an easy task in KLCC so this appeared weird to all of us....Nevertheless, back to my farewell treat ^_^

My order. Special Bento??
Can't remember the name, all i know is it came with many stuff!
It has octopus, grilled mackerel, tempura, salmon and tuna sashimi, salads and a type of fried/baked rice. While the other sides were up to my expectations, i was pleasantly surprised with the rice included. Not sure what rice was that but it has some shitake, ginkgo and some diced chicken, it left a very healthy feeling to me indeed...
I love this set! Li Chain and El had the same set with me...we have same taste ehh???

With Andy, El and Elaine

This is another set that 5 of the managers chosen...haha..
Beef Teriyaki/Teppanyaki set
I could smell a very strong teriyaki flavour...beefy ...and i supposed it was nice too..

With Ngiam Ngiam
Cheeerful as ever

With Kenji and Eric
Thanks Uncle Eric who is always busy and "anti-social" but spared some time for me...hehe...

With Elaine, Wai Yi
They were my neighbours in office before!

Love the set so much until i wanted to take a pict with it!

Awesome Jap lunch
Thanks so much guys!
