Restoran Soon Soon Lye Salmon Fish Head @ Bandar Puteri, Puchong

Wanted to "rescue" my hair before going down south. Was at Puchong, headed to Bandar Puteri for a quick lunch before the salon appointment. As i said earlier, wanted to eat local foods more often before flying off, so i chose to have fish head noodles as lunch....

I had lunch here before with my bro long time ago but never blog about it. This round, i found that their service has improved, probably because it was still early before the lunch crowd came in. So they had only a few patrons to serve...

Wanted to treat myself a good meal, ordered
Salmon Fish Head Noodle with Fresh Water Prawn
RM18.50
Not cheap, since i ordered fresh water prawn.
Honestly, i like the broth very much. Very sweet, and with the rightful amount of tanginess from the preserved veges.
It was actually a big bowl of goodness, generous amount of thick beehoon, and the fried salmon head and the fresh water prawn. Probably the soup was sweeter from the prawn roe. Afterall, any soup will taste better with prawn added in.....
The way i like the fish head noodle to be....
I will definitely miss this...lucky me to be able to savour this before i leave the town...

It is actually right opposite Ah Xian Dimsum at Bandar Puteri Puchong

Oh dear, i haven't try Ah Xian dimsum!

Restoran Taiping Lang @ Puchong Jaya

It's been a travelling month for me, travelling here and there to client's office, which are all a bit distance from my office. A bit tiring, but it's fun to have the opportunity to savour nice foods at those areas.....
Latest frequent area is Puchong, which is about half an hour drive from KL (if no traffic jam). A few colleagues staying here too, and i have a client here which i need to visit every year during this period. Puchong folks are very lucky, many nice eateries around and my team has difficulty making decision where to have breakfast and lunch during their engagement period here!
I was there on last Tuesday and brought them to a restaurant which i didn't visit since a year ago....

Stepping into the restaurant is like walking down memory lane...Nostalgic feeling as many antiques are used as decorative items...

Info from www.taipinglang.com

Restoran Taiping Lang serves northern Malaysian-Hokkien home style cooking. Each menu has four main sets, which we named Ah Mah’s Banquets. We strongly recommend these sets for your best savouring experience in Restoran Taiping Lang. Each set is presented with combinations of different dishes and the blending of tastes – such as spicy with savoury, sour with sweet, strong with delicate. We also serve our dishes a la carte, you can choose any dishes from the main sets or our daily side dishes.

Three different sets of menus – “T”, “P”, “L” are rotated every two days for you to relish greater varieties of grandma’s recipes.

Restoran Taiping Lang serves homestyle and simple foods, and has earned reputations among foodies and neighbourhood. They have been featured many times in local newspapers and food programmes...

Featured in Taiwan's food programme too...which so happened i watched it too!

Enough about the fame. Let's move on to food review ~~~
5 of us, we ordered 2 sets for 2 pax each, and ala carte of 2 more side dishes

Hong Ba
Pork stewed with mushroom and spices
Pork was cooked until very tender, not too salty

Bangkuang Cha
"Sengkuang" shredded and fried with cuttlefish, with dried prawns and some other ingredients.
They provided some leafy to wrap together with this. Simple yet aromatic, easily our favourite dish here.....

Achat
Spicy pickled vegetables
Crunchy veges, like the generous amount of sesame and peanuts sprinkled.
Some find it too spicy, but i couldn't stop munching on this....

Gulai Hu
Fish curry
Thick curry paste, sour and spicy enough...

Ba Kian
Fried pork sausages - nyonya style
This was delish, identical in taste to "lo bak" in Penang. A very good version of marinated minced meat roll....

Kiam Chai Buey
Mixed vegetable stew - sour
Sourness "ngam-ngam" for us

Cincalok Ba
Pork stir-fried with cincalok shrimps
This dish ended up being left out, probably my team did not really fancy the taste of cincalok....
A pretty normal dish indeed...

Soup of the day, which is part of the lunch set...

You can choose either rice or porridge to go with the dishes, and it's free refill....

Something extraordinary that we never see before, recommended by the waitress....
A type of fish, fried and stuffed with shrimp sambal....

Looks like this...
The fish skin is a bit hard and Mint who is from Taiping told us that normally no one will eat the skin. We like the sambal very much, and it tasted better when mixed with the fish meat.
Amazing....

Leng-Kak-Chee Leong Fun
Cincau drink with soaked basil seeds (biji selasih)
A very refreshing drink! A hit with me!

Rojak as desserts for us
RM 5 for this
3 variety of items, which i think is a bit little. Like the way they serve the rojak paste separately, a lot of sesame added, and the paste was very thick and flavourful too...
Our bill came to about RM90++, prices are a lil bit on high side given the portion size. But honestly, a visit here is worth, given the quality of foods and nostalgic sense...

Japanese Chiffon Cake @ Les Toast Puchong

Puchong is really a good place for "cari makan". There are just too many good eateries around Puchong, which until now i have not been able to try. There is a particular bakery which was opened somewhere last year (if i am not mistaken) and i will definitely get something from there whenever i am around the bakery...

Les Toast uses Japanese baking techniques to bring out the bread and cakes that are healthy and low sugar content. I have tried their breads and cakes before, and i am definitely in love with it.
It has been visited by HoJiak programme at 8TV sometime back, mainly to introduce the Japanese Chiffon Cake. This cake is very popular and they only sell limited number each day. I always ended up going back disappointed as it is sold out everytime i wanted to get one home. I think luck was with me on last Friday, cos it was just being readily baked and push out for sale! And it's fresh from oven!

The size of this chiffon cake is rather small compared to the normal chiffon cake that we normally see, and it costs RM5.50 each...

It uses only pure cocoa powder, making it simply irresistable...
It was very fluffy, rich in chocolate taste, and i just can't get enough of it.
If not because of watching my weight, i think i can wallop the whole cake!
Haha....

Les Toast

05-01, Jalan Kenari 18B, Bandar Puchong Jaya

9am - 10pm

Will hang out a bit frequent in Puchong in July onwards...more opportunities to food hunt in Puchong!

In love wif Shabu...

Steamboat is one of my favourite indulgence (err...why use this term ah?), cos i get to eat a lot of veggies and mushrooms cooked in the simplest and healthiest manner. I have a few favourite steamboat restaurants and one of it is Shabu Shabu Restaurant ("ShabuShabu") located at Puchong, Bandar Puteri to be exact. I always feel that Puchong folks are very lucky as the area is surrounded by many nice and famous eateries, all within the neighbourhood itself.
ShabuShabu is the sister restaurant of Mizi Shabu Shabu located at Bdr Puteri as well (the other side, near Bumbu Bali). Mizi serves the steamboat in set while this one is in buffet style. Thats why you can see this:

See the crowd? There are more standing outside the entrance. Not sure whether Malaysians are also kiasu. People tend to flock to places with long queue.

This is not the 1st time i visited ShabuShabu. I am totally hooked on it. Many of my friends are too. Why? Let's find out:-
Buffet is served on conveyor belt, like what we usually see in Jap restaurant serving sushis. We can just grab anything that we like, irrespective of the no. of times. You don't need to bother whether there is anyone staring at you cos everyone is busy grabbing and eating...

Everyone has their personal pot and cutlery. Very hygienic!

Look at the stacks of plates. FYI, the foods are served in a very small portion on each plate so you can get to taste all without the fear of getting full before you finish trying.

See, they have OCTOPUS!! My favourite!! Not bad somemore leh...

Pork slices. Refillable as many times as you wish...

After satisfying meal...BuRppp!

They have a simple process b4 you can go into the restaurant:

- pay at counter @ RM26.50 per person (Adult) or RM15.75 (Child). If you are unsure whether your kids are still entitle for the Child price, they have an area for measurement la....so you can't cheat.

- after paid, you can go in liao. Present the ticket to waiters in the steamboat area. You can actually refund the tickets within 15 minutes of issuance.

- b4 start feasting, read the instructions carefully, especially for parents bringing kids around.

- start indulging!!

Information of the restaurant as follows. They are visited by Ho Jiak of 8TV before :-) Sorry the pict a bit blur. Maybe too hungry that's why hand shaking...lol....
