Girls' Nite Out - Seeri Authentic Thai Restaurant & TinPan GoGo

Had a girls' nite out on a Friday together with Jiun, Lily, Min and Wai Yee. I suggested to go try a thai restaurant which i stumbled upon reading a blog that i frequented. And oh yes, the decision was correct =)

The menu stated NO MSG, i didn't feel extremely thirsty after eating so i think it's true!

Found some special drink like lemongrass/pandan tea and this water chestnut drink - RM3.00
Min who ordered this said it tasted like the one from can @_@

Me and WaiYee ordered thai coconut to cool ourself due to the super hot weather!
RM4.50

Let's see what we had that day

Green curry chicken - RM15
This dish is their recommended one but we felt that it was just so-so only..
While it was aromatic enough, i felt that the curry was a bit watery, and the chicken tasted a bit weird. Oh we found something interesting in the curry that looked like olive...

I love this
Stir fried paku pakis - RM10
Crunchy!

Tomyam seafood - RM20.00
Each of us had a bowl of this, with plenty of mixed seafood such as prawn, fish and squid.
Served in an old school charcoal steamboat, all of us liked this very much. Very flavourful even though it was not that spicy enough, still got the kick that kicked our appetite!

Steam Seabass - RM32.00
I knew we had to order this upon entering the shop. I saw it on every table!
The fish was caught live in front of our eyes as the aquarium was just a table away from us....
Steamed traditional thai style with lots of garlic, the soup itself was so sweet and the fish meat was tender too...

I had too much of this though....

Pandan chicken - RM15.00
Tender meat and fragrant enough....a dish to complete this awesome thai food experience!

The 5 of us had too much...we ordered 5 dishes!
Greedy max!
The meal came to RM113 (no tax), which i think is affordable, given the satisfaction of the thai food that we had.
The restaurant is located at the same row as Kayu Nasi Kandar at Chow Yang, SS2.

Feeling to have something sweet and to continue our endless conversation, we adjourned to TinPanGoGo for desserts...
~~ Drooling ~~

A personal desserts for each of us and durian pancakes, red bean and coconut pudding to share...
The pudding was very nice and Q enough ehh! We loved it very much!

The desserts bill came to approx RM80, and we spent nearly RM200 that night....
Expensive? Not really....cos the opportunity to catch up with the buddies was indeed priceless....

Sushi Tei @ Tropicana City Mall

Sushi Tei is a Japanese chain restaurant from Singapore. First heard about it last year but only managed to try it today, to celebrate Wai Yee's birthday, 1 of my best buddy in KL....Some say its foods are so-so, some say excellent. Well, we'll see how it goes....

What they offered is pretty much the same with other Japanese chain, with a few "new" items that we never seen in other restaurant...at least they serve sea urchin here (which is very NOT affordable for me lah....haha....)

Hot Ocha for us 3

Birthday girl ^^

Salmon Carpaccio RM10.80
Seared salmon with soy sauce (or sesame?), topped with alfalfa
Very fresh. Like it very much...

Chicken Katsu Soba
While the soba tasted good with a very clear and sweet soup, the chicken katsu somehow let us down with its dryness. Prefer it to be more juicy...

Salmon belly sushi (at behind) RM6.00
Salmon roll with 3 kinds of different ebiko (forgot the price)
All i can say is good. Amazing.

Grilled scallop with mayonaise
The sauce has a hint of garlic, and it's pretty filling up the tummy after eating this. Some kind of "jelak". Ended up we ate the chicken katsu together with the sauce and it tasted pretty good too...

Grilled salmon with cod roe RM15.80
Thumbs up for this!
The salmon was not overly grilled, just perfect to be eaten together with the cod roe on top. Cod roe was smooth and silky enough, a perfect combination!
I am craving more for this!

Chawanmushi ordered by the birthday girl, which we found it just normal

We also ordered the Grilled squid which was giant in size. Not up to our expectation, still had it chewy-ness, but the teriyaki sauce provided was not enough leh...haha...

^^ Us ^^
Happy Birthday Wai Yee !

Our local kopitiam

I am glad that Malaysia has many nice eateries around, be it high end or economical. We are never tired of exploring good food around, and it does taste better with the right partner around =)
I have managed to explore 2 local kopitiam which has been around in town for many years, and i found the food to be awesomely delicious!
Jalan Ipoh kopitiam
the row of shop next to the mosque at Jalan Ipoh,
near Sungei Mas building, Jalan Ipoh

some local beverage for our brunch

Wantan Mee - RM4.30 (Medium)
I was actually quite surprised with the quality of this wantan mee. Springy noodle and the charsiew was quite tender. The most interesting part was they used pork lard! So this is their little secret for such a humble dish....
We went here twice and he ordered twice!

This kopitiam has a stall that sells Teochew style porridge and noodles, with ingredients such as lala, fish balls, and a few kinds of fish (MaYao, ikan bawal and etc)
I ordered MaYao noodle soup
RM10.50
Like this very much, very clear soup, sweet as well, and i doubt whether they added any oil in it!
Fish meat was fresh too....
Very suitable for girls on diet like me...haha....

Restoran Mee Yoke Lim @ Chow Yang SS2, PJ

Busy saturday with big crowds around

The famous Prawn Mee - RM4.00
Right kick of spiciness in the soup, and thick broth as well
But overall was a normal Prawn noodle for both of us.....
nothing extraordinary indeed....

There is a stall selling Penang Char Kuay Teow and we decided to try, and it turned out to be a right decision!
RM4.00
Huge shrimp, full of wok-hei...the right Penang version that we seldom see in town...
I am definitely giving thumbs up for this!

Craved for popiah so i ordered this, and the minimum order is 2 pieces, at RM1.50 per piece!
A very good tactic in doing business ehh?
But it was only averageeeeeeeeee!

I know there are many good local kopitiam around which serves good and affordable foods...will definitely explore it!

Village Park @ Damansara Uptown - Best Nasi Lemak in town!

I have promised to bring the special one to try our local nasi lemak before, so that he can compare the difference between ours and Singapore. Apparently he gave a rather good comment to the one that i brought him during his previous visit to town during Xmas holiday - Village Park @ Damansara Uptown...

I ordered Cucumber + sour plum juice which did not come cheap
RM4.00
Sourish and appetising...
A very good beverage to wash down the meal at the end...

The signature - Nasi Lemak
added beef rendang
RM6.10
I am not a fans of nasi lemak but i can truly say that this is the best among in town
Rice which is just nice, not too dry nor mushy
Crispy anchovies and crunchy peanuts
Sambal with the right kick of sweet and spicy....
Beef rendang with tender meat....
A perfect combination for a good nasi lemak...

I opted for Nasi dagang with chicken rendang
RM6.70
Very fragrant rice and i like the rendang gravy very much
Not sure how to describe, just perfectly wonderful for a simple meal...
We ordered Ayam goreng berempah to share
I found this fried chicken drumstick to be amazing!

Simple meal...truly DIVINE!

The battle of Hong Kong Desserts ~ Tin Pan GoGo vs Honeymoon Desserts ~

The special one was in town for the past 2 weekends and one of our favourite past times was desserts time ie 糖水时间... haha... We have tried 3 famous desserts shop in town ie KTZ, TinPan GoGo and Honeymoon Desserts, and numerous occasions been made to TinPan GoGo as well. Am not going to comment on KTZ since it has been established for many years in town and i have blogged about it before. Am going to comment on the 2 HongKong desserts shop that have made its presence in the market these 2 years....

TinPan GoGo
No36, Ground Floor, Jalan SS2/63, Petaling Jaya
They have branches in other areas as well

白果腐竹薏米- RM4.00
The foochok already been dissolved completely, generous amount of ginkgo provided too.
Not too bad but a bit sweet to my liking...

核桃露 + 汤圆 (Walnut sweet soup + glutinous ball) - RM7.00
The glutinous ball was perfect with the sesame fillings but the walnut sweet soup was too sweeeeeet! Or am i not used to this sweet soup?

花生糊 Peanut sweet soup - RM5.50
Rich, creamy, aromatic
Good ~~

炖木瓜雪耳红莲 Double boiled papaya with white fungus - RM7.00
Refreshing!

Their signature Mango HorFun - RM8.00
Coconut flavoured jelly wrapped with mango
Juicy and meltingly soft ~~

杨枝金露 Mango with pomelo sweet soup - RM6.00 (Small)
Good but the pomelo a bit bitter la..... apparently i found it a bit pricy for such a small bowl

Behind was the Taufoofar+Almond sweet soup, which he found the combination a bit weird and i hate the taste of almond sweet soup!

My Honeymoon Desserts

No. 141, Jalan Rimbunan Raya 1, Laman Rimbunan Kepong (same row as Public Bank Kepong)

Other outlets in Sunway Pyramid and One Utama

I like their tagline

Sweet potato soup - RM4.00
Sweet potato boiled until very soft but the sweet soup was extremely "hot" with the ginger taste!

Marble Soy bean curd - RM6.00
Taufoofar with a hint of sesame...something new worth to try

Double boiled papaya with white fungus - RM7.00
Similar to the one by TinPan GoGo

I personally feel that the pricing by these 2 desserts house is a bit steep, but they do really provide a rather good service and a lot of varieties of desserts provided, just like the way i have seen during my visit to Hong Kong. Definitely will go back for more desserts!
