Awesome pot

I wonder...at the price of RM138, can you find something like this in KL?

Blur photo? No idea what is that? See this again....

This is called 海味盆菜 "Pun-Choy". But it is not the usual Pun-Choy that we expect like what i have tried before in Hong Kong. For usual Pun-Choy, we can find stuff like seafood-eg. prawns, meats-eg.chicken,pork, trotter, and vegetables, stacked neatly from bottom to the top. For the above, we found stuff like these:-

  • mushroom
  • goose feet
  • dried scallop
  • abalone slices
  • baby abalone
  • dried oyster
  • fish maw
  • sea cucumber
  • lotus root
  • bamboo shoot
  • brocolli

Does it sound expensive to you? The big pot can actually feed many people, but we, comprised of 7 pax managed to wallop all...haha...and i have not tell you there were other dishes that we ordered for the dinner. By the way, it was my dad's birthday celebration, so we decided to order such a "luxury" dish....

Drooling @_@ I want more!

~~Slurrrpyy~~

Given the generous amount of seafood delicacies, the gravy is awesomely delicious! Very sweet and got the "kick"!

The birthday was celebrated in a chinese restaurant at my hometown - Fu Man Restaurant. The Pun Choy above cost only RM138, and i don't think we can find any similar in KL area. Expect to pay more than RM250 per pot for servings in KL restaurant. FYI, there are folks coming down from KL to Tg. Malim purposely to visit this restaurant, especially since they were published in local chinese newspaper. They have a few famous delicacies, which i will post if i got to savour those again =)

By the way, I did not snap any photo for other dishes cos my dad mumbled at me of taking photos while eating! Hah! ^_^

Stall that i have been visiting for more than 20 years....

Do you have a particular stall or shop, which you start visiting since childhood, and the people and foods of the particular stall are still the same as many years back?
Well, i have. I have been visiting this stall since i was a small kid. I think it has been more than 20 years ... wah..time flies~~~~
Tell you what. They never change! Why? See the following....
1) the quality is still as good as before
2) they still insist to use charcoal to cook after so many years
3) they are still operating in stall, even though all of us know that the boss is earning as much as a restaurant owner
4) they have a loyal waitress who has been helping them for many years. Seriously, i saw her 20 years ago and now she is still working here. I think she deserves the most loyal employee award =)
And you know what is the most torturing part that they never change? THE WAITING TIME!!!

There were damn many customers on Friday night. Particularly due to the fact many came back for Ching Ming session, like what me and my 2 bros did. You only see a few tables here, there are a lot more seated outside the stall ...

This is the uncle doing the stunt =)
I see him from being black hair to white hair... Ages...sob sob....
As you can see, they only have a small open kitchen and a small place serving the drinks/some preparation/keeping cutleries. The GOOD food do not need a fancy environment to match it anyway...

Wait, wait, wait...we ended up waiting approx 45 minutes for our turn. This is a norm here. If you can't wait, better don't go...

And at last.....after our stomach making some loud pop music...

Hokkien Fried Mee
Do you see the sinful 猪肉渣 on top? Hello cholestrol!!!
Enough of "wok-hei", and the home-made yellow noodles made this dish even more delicious.
I dono how to further describe this anymore, you better try it yourself =)

My favourite - Loh Mee
I heart the soup, which is cooked in generous amount of eggs. I can just take the soup without the noodles...hehe...

the best evidence of how tasty is the Loh Mee ^_^

the legendary Beehoon in Pepper hot soup
They call it "Ba-Ki", which means pepper soup with porks in Hokkien.
The uncle sourced the pepper from Sarawak and he used it when cooking this. And the results, a flavourful pepper soup, with starchy pork...in a hot piping pepper soup! You will see generous amount of pepper at the bottom of the bowl by the time you finish wallop this...
I can't seem to find similar dish in KL. This make the stall even more famous with KL people who will visit it often, since it is only 45 minutes drive from the city to reach here...

Cantonese style Yin Yong.
The sauce is very flavourful with generous amount of egg starch, served with the crunchy fried beehoon..it is just awesome.
Also, i can't find this in any Taichow stall in KL. They either made the beehoon very soft or they made the sauce very watery...i still heart this at my own hometown..

We also ordered the fried cabbage with dried shrimp. This is the only vege dish that they serve. Certain amount of chinese wine is mixed and it makes the dish even more delicious....

~~ All foods are priced at RM8 per plate ~~
This stall is only a 3 minutes drive after Tanjong Malim toll. If you are interested to go there, please do not hesitate to call me for direction. I have been eating it for more than 20 years and i bet you sure like it...

Coffee Addict

Yes, u read it correct. I am a self confessed coffee addict. Is there a word such as "coffeeholic"...hehe.
Coffee is a brewed beverage prepared from coffee beans. Caffeinated coffee has a stimulating effect in humans. Today, coffee is one of the most popular beverages worldwide, thanks to Starbucks! I actually have a dream to travel to Seattle to visit Starbucks' 1st outlet in the world...haha...well i am not a fan of Starbucks by the way...

It can sometimes be daunting walking into a cafe or coffee house and seeing the long list of coffee varieties and drinks on the menu. What’s the difference between a latte and an Au lait? How does a cappuccino differ from an Americano? I myself can only differentiate between Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha, Irish coffee and Frappe. The rest, i have no idea.

Maybe the info from the web could help:-

Americano: A single shot of espresso with about 7 ounces of hot water added to the mix. The name for this coffee drink stemmed from an insult to ‘uncouth’ Americans who weren’t up to drinking full espressos.

Cafe au Lait: Similar to Caffe Latte, except that an au lait is made with brewed coffee instead of espresso. Additionally, the ratio of milk to coffee is 1:1, making for a much less intense taste.

Caffe Latte: Essentially, a single shot of espresso in steamed (not frothed) milk. The ratio of milk to coffee should be about 3:1, but you should be aware that latte in Italian means ‘milk’, so be careful ordering one when in Rome.

Cafe Macchiato: A shot of espresso with steamed milk added. The ratio of coffee to milk is approximately 4:1.

Cappuccino: Usually equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and frothed milk, often with cinnamon or flaked chocolate sprinkled on top. Some coffee shops will add more milk than that so that the customer will get a bigger drink out of the deal, but that makes the coffee itself far weaker.

Double, or Double Shot: Just as it sounds, this is two shots of espresso mixed in with the regular amount of additional ingredients.

Flavoured coffee: A very much ethnic tradition, syrups, flavorings, and/or spices are added to give the coffee a tinge of something else. Chocolate is the most common additive, either sprinkled on top or added in syrup form, while other favorites include cinnamon, nutmeg, and Italian syrups.

Frappe: A big favourite in parts of Europe and Latin America, especially during the summer months. Originally a cold espresso, it has more recently been prepared putting 1-2 teaspoons of instant coffee with sugar, water and ice. The brew is placed in a long glass with ice, and milk if you like, turning it into a big coffee milkshake.

Irish coffee: A coffee spiked with Irish whiskey, with cream on top. An alcoholic beverage that’s best kept clear of the kids, but warms you up plenty on a cold winter night.

Mocha: This popular drink is basically a Cappuccino or Latte with chocolate syrup added to the mix. Sweeter, not as intense in coffee flavor, and a good ‘gateway’ coffee for those who don’t usually do the caffeine thing.

They are a lot of cafe and coffee house mushrooming in our country since many years ago. Whenever i encounter any new coffee joint, i could not stop my eyes from peeping into the cafe. The most well known coffee joint in KL now in my opinion would be Starbucks and Old Town White Coffee, a competition between high-end and economical stuff. While Starbucks offers premium coffee and premium food at premium place, Old Town chooses to offer affordable coffee and food close to neighbourhood (although it has now ventured to shopping malls like Pavillion).

The current economic slumpdown has resulted in people cutting down on pricey coffee, and moving to affordable stuff, like Old Town, since the environment is as cosy as the previous, although the location is not that classy. I noticed KL folks are flocking to Old Town to "yumcha" at night too. But have you ever wonder that a small glass of white coffee provided by Old Town has now cost at least a whopping RM3, compared to our local kopitiam, with same size of drink, but only cost us RM1.50? There you go the 100% markup to the fancy setup of their outlet... no wonder they are opening more than 100 outlets in Malaysia. Anyone interested in Old Town franchise? I do not deny that their quality is good, but i would sometimes feel heartache considering the price la...

And FYI, there are already 2 Old Town outlets near my office. They even have stiff competition among themselves

Since i am a coffee addict, i would not hesitate to pay a hefty price just to savour my favourite beverage. It sometimes depends on my mood as well. If i feel to relax and simply to have a good coffee-day, i would go to place like Starbucks/Coffee Bean/Pick & Brew....if i don't feel to go out, i would choose to make coffee at home, maybe Nescafe 3 in 1.....See, i drink coffee no matter where i am, and no matter how much it costs... :P

I know friends who could not consume coffee cos they will get dizzy after drinking it. Luckily i am not...hehee..

Let me share with you guys some of the coffee that i tried before~~~~~

Black Coffee @ Pick & Brew, One Utama, served in a Mocha Pot to keep it warm. Add sugar and milk according to you preference. You can choose the coffee bean from their extensive menu. I like it very much as the bitterness of the strong coffee suits my taste.

I tried this during their teatime promo, comes with a muffin, at RM12++ per set

Latte @ Dome.

Served with 2 small slices of biscotti. RM10++

Latte @ Delicious, Midvalley

Ordered the scone set to go with the latte. SO DAMN DISAPPOINTED WITH THE LATTE! Not enough coffee taste...no next time...

Hazelnut Latte @ Easy Cafe (my hometown). RM7

Nice presentation anyway.

I think this is called Grafitti Latte. It is Latte with nice graphic on it.
Tried this @ Pick & Brew too, teatime promo comes with a slice of cake. Their cake is awesomely delicious as well...

I have tried many coffee in different cafe as well but did not snap any picture. Will do it next time :p

You are proved to know me well if you know that i need my daily dose of coffee. How many dose per day depends on the craving of it daily. If i am in office, i will definitely gulp 2 mugs of coffee. Luckily my office do have a good coffee machine with good coffee bean for me to "play" with...

My daily dose of coffee in my fave mug!

Would you like to buy me coffee? I promise i would be nice to you... :-)
