KaKa Bakuteh @ Kepong

I have been visiting this bakuteh shop since many years ago, but it has been many months since i last visited. Probably was afraid of the high calories and cholestrol of this awesome dish of truly malaysian! I went to this famous bakuteh shop of Kepong with a good friend of mine, who does not hesitate to "underwrite" the food due to over-ordering!

Bakuteh served in claypot, with 3 layer fatty pork, ribs and intestines
The soup was very rich and herbal, very flavourful
best served with white rice!

Yap Char Kwai to complete the bakuteh meal
Superb

Chinese wine chicken
This is the main dish that attracted me over here, the soup was just so awesomely perfect with the generous amount of chinese wine included...
Girls, this is really a very good dish for us...especially the particular day of the month... It can really warm your body...
Slurpp till the last drop ~~~

So much for only 2 of us
They do serve yam rice as well...
Altogether approximately RM50++....a bit pricy for only 2 of us but we just ordered too much!

Ka Ka Bakuteh is just located opposite Carrefour Kepong
I guess they are having a brisk business during this rainy season :P

Weekend Outing a.k.a Food Hunting !

The special one was in town during last long weekend. Apart from the shopping, movie and concert that we went to, we had also tried out a few of new eateries and some of re-visit restaurants/shops....

Restoran Wei Sun
No.47, Grd Floor, Jalan 9/62A, Bdr Manjalara, Kepong

We were here for this - signature Liquor Loh Mee
RM13 - small portion
It was so famous because of the added liquor as compared to the normal version loh mee.
The gravy was very good, especially with the hint of liquor. But i found the noodles a bit too dull and there was not much ingredients given.... a few small abalone pieces and shrimps added in...that's all!

Snowy Tofu - RM12
Came in 4 pieces
Very good version of home made fried tofu, silky soft in the inside and crunchy outside,
dipped into the accompanied sweet & sour sauce...Yummy ~~~~

Another specialty - Crispy Salted Chicken
RM20
It was featured as their signature dish in newspapers review, but we felt it was way a bit salty...
Average

We were in the mood for some soup so we ordered this - Sai Yong Choy soup
RM3.80
The pot is very very small, but was laden with enough ingredients that made it sweet.
It took more than 20 minutes for this to arrive, which we think they might have ordered it from some other shops and sold it in their shops for some extra charges????

SS2 Fatty Duck Teochew Porridge
Same row as Kayu Nasi Kandar at Chow Yang SS2

RM20++
It was a rainy day...perfect for a good bowl of teochew porridge
We had the braised duck, mushrooms, salted vege, tofu, intestines and peanuts

This is good!
We like the braised sauce so much that we mixed with our plain white porridge
Duck meat was braised until tender and it has absorbed the secret sauce so perfectly!

I love this
Very chewy..QQ flavour
A good version of braised intestines that seldom we can find elsewhere...

Restoran Pan Heong
Batu Caves

Was here for this
"Wat Tan Hor" - RM12
We ordered their signature wat tan hor with ginger fish slices

I really like their gravy which was so thicky and with generous amount of eggs
Fish slices were fresh and the flat noodles were aromatic too!

This restaurant is famous for the porridge too and so we ordered Pork rib with century eggs porridge - RM7.80
Porridge was cooked until perfectly moist, with big chunk of pork rib and century eggs....
Definitely worth the money we paid for!

Restoran Yut Kee - Dang Wangi

He was craving for some chicken chop so we headed to this famous hainanese eatery for a good plate of this....
Chicken Chop - RM9.00
Very tender and juicy...like the gravy and the potato wedges very much...
Very nostalgic!

Pork chop - RM9.00
Similar condiments and gravy with chicken chop
I found the pork chop a bit normal and not that juicy as compared to the earlier, but he liked it though..... It came with 2 pieces of pork chop of which each size of the meat is comparable to the 1 piece of chicken chop....guess ordering pork chop here is more worthy???

Hailam Fried Noodles - RM5.30
Laden with some pork strips, sotong and PORK LARDS!
Something like hokkien mee but without the black soya sauce...
Very aromatic, got the "wok-hei"....but mind you it's a bit oily and high cholestrol because of the pork lard la.....
Super Noodle House - Sungei Wang Plaza

We were at Golden Triangle and visited this restaurant:
- he saw many patrons visited this eatery everytime he passed by so he wanted to try
- the last time i visited was more than 8 years ago, i still remember my dad used to bring us to this restaurant whenever we visited Sungei Wang Plaza when we were still in teenage years!

Roast Pork and BBQ Pork rice
RM9.00
The rice portion was very small, came with a medium portion of charsiew and siew yok...
Not too bad...the siew yok was a good combination of lean and fatty meat, charsiew was very Q and flavourful too!

艇仔粥 - RM7.00
Unsatisfied!
Not a good version of cantonese congee, not moist enough and it tasted so plain...i kept on adding the soya sauce to enhance the flavour...

Double boiled Pigeon soup - RM10.00
Very sweet! Whole pigeon with some chinese herbs...
All i can say is worth it...

Lotus root soup - RM8.30
See the wholesome of goodness in this little container...
Enjoyable to the last drop....

We spent quite a bit on the above, not mentioning some lunches/dinners that we went but i didn't manage to take photo...Well, i think it is not about the money... it is the precious time that we spent together that i feel is priceless.... Arghhh...gotta wait another 3 more weeks to see him again!

Had a good Korean dinner with my good friend last Monday. Am travelling to Korea soon so has started to crave for Korean cuisine...haha... We headed to Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant in Kepong, a Korean restaurant chain that has a few branches in KL and PJ....
Has a wide selection of BBQ items
Like the tatami style dining area. Great to ease ourself

Seaweed soup to start the meal

Ordered Kimchi soup too - RM18
Comes with a bowl of rice
Very thick soup, laden with generous amount of ingredients such as vege and tofu.
Always heart this soup. My must order everytime i go Korean restaurant

A variety of kimchi starter
Next to it was Pork ribs BBQ - RM35

The ribs after it's cooked!
Very tender and juicy, well marinated.
Wrap it together with the lettuce that is served complimentary, and dip into the accompanied sauce....Yummy ~~~~

BBQ Squid, before and after
RM28
Flavoursome. This is really good....

Korean seafood pancake - complimentary too
Not too starchy, nice to be eaten with the sweet sauce

~ The aftermath ~
Only 2 of us

My good old friend
Always have lotsa things to chat about
He's getting married soon!
~~ Wishing you a bless marriage with your loved one and may you live happily ever after ~~

Ketam Steamboat @ Manjalara, Kepong

It was a gloomy afternoon...rain started around 2pm...rain, stop, rain, stop.....continuously. What is the best food to eat during such weather....hohoho....it's steamboat time again!
I love steamboat...if you do not know before, now you know =) And i like to visit Ketam Steamboat Restaurant @ Manjalara, Kepong. Reason? VALUE FOR MONEY. I found the portion served is more than those served in other steamboat restaurant. It is real worth the value....Many of you may have visited this shop before. Some come all the way from PJ and KL...just for the sake of Ketam steamboat....

Steamboat set - RM15.80 per pax
Includes pork balls, prawns, some other fish balls, fish, quail egg, vege, fuchok, tofu and so on...their ingredients are sourced from Pulau Ketam, if i am not mistaken, hence the name of the restaurant given. They are fresh!

Pork balls - RM7.20 for 12
My fave! I dont think you can get so many of this in other shops...

Suikow - dumplings - RM7.20 for 8
Very nice! I like it cos they mix some vege like carrot and black fungus in it...

Part of the set - eggs, beehoon and yeemee....

Side order - vegetables - RM6 each

wait for it to boil~~~~~waiting...waiting.......

yay it's done!
let's indulge!

i like to eat this kind of egg during steamboat...awesome!

Having steamboat during rainy days definitely will warm your stomach and also your heart...simple dish, yet flavorful and filling!

你记得吃吗?

Craved for some desserts on Sunday night. So we went to The Fruitti Stall @ Kepong. I bet many of you have known 记得吃 desserts shop for quite some time since it has been in business for many years. They have a few outlets in KL, and the most crowded one in Imbi has moved to Low Yat Plaza. I once visited the one in Low Yat and the crowd seems to be lesser. I think it is because of inconvenience in finding parking.

One funny view for the stall in Kepong...

there is one giant tree tucked in between this stall. funny ^_^

i ordered shark fin soup @_@
hahaha....
it is actually water chestnut tong sui which has some egg starchy inside. taste not bad though.
i initially wanted to eat the black sesame but was told that they do not sell on weekend. i thought weekend is suppose to have better business??? =.='''
RM2.00

my all time favourite - 皮蛋瘦肉粥 - RM2.40
i love it for being sticky and loaded with generous portion of meat and the century egg

红豆捞 Red Bean Sago Ice - RM4.50
i tried this once in previous visit and found it so-so only. nothing extraordinary.

fish fillet - RM4.70
it sucks -_-'''
it is just like fish paste and some other ingredients crumbled together and being fried without using proper recipe...

crabmeat taufu - crispy outside and soft inside. a good try
RM5.00

chinese pizza - RM3.50
绣球 - RM3.70
i never like these 2 side dishes but anyway not ordered by me....haha...
i found it plain and not worth the price

crabs shell stuffed with meat paste - RM3.50 each
nothing to shout about. just some meat paste stuffed in the crab shell. i think they mix some crab meat too. anyway, it taste ok...

pan fried dumpling - RM8.00 for 8 pieces
the dumpling is pan fried until crispy and should be eaten while it's hot. if not, the taste will make you disappointed

花生糊 - Peanut butter - RM2.00
very creamy but i felt it very sweet. the peanut taste is not as strong as to my liking

There are many other types of tong sui available, i think the price is standard @ RM2 each. They offer some double-boiled dessert and some chinese pastries as well. Since we have not seen many quality desserts shop around Kepong, this stall is definitely a good choice. Mind you, they are quite packed on the nights of weekend....
