KaKa Bakuteh @ Kepong

I have been visiting this bakuteh shop since many years ago, but it has been many months since i last visited. Probably was afraid of the high calories and cholestrol of this awesome dish of truly malaysian! I went to this famous bakuteh shop of Kepong with a good friend of mine, who does not hesitate to "underwrite" the food due to over-ordering!

Bakuteh served in claypot, with 3 layer fatty pork, ribs and intestines

The soup was very rich and herbal, very flavourful

best served with white rice!

This is the main dish that attracted me over here, the soup was just so awesomely perfect with the generous amount of chinese wine included...

Girls, this is really a very good dish for us...especially the particular day of the month... It can really warm your body...

Altogether approximately RM50++....a bit pricy for only 2 of us but we just ordered too much!

Breakfast @ Imbi Market

It was Fwu Sheng's last day in office today. We were in the mood (with ManMan of course!) for some nice breakfast and so we headed to Imbi Market for their nice and value-for-money breakfast. I have heard about the fame of this market which is very famous with its kopitiam and hawker breakfast. Finally managed to visit this morning...

It was a rainy morning and i did not get the chance to "tour" around the market to find out what is being offered. Let ManMan make the decision to order....

猪杂粥 from next stall

Look at how smooth the porridge is...with generous amount of ingredients, especially the fried 猪肠...aromatic!

The butter has already melted and absorbed into the bread by the time it reached our table

Very very delicious!

I always prefer toasted bun as compared to sliced bread ^_^

Chee Cheong Fun from next stall
the chee cheong fun itself was real good, accompanied with the sweet sauce and chilli...Yum Yum!
But the stuffed okra was a let down...very hard to bite la!


Operating a kopitiam from this little store....
It's a little gem...

This is 1 of the few kopitiam in the Imbi market, the other kopitiam is as crowded as this one....i heard business is better if not because of the rainy days....you can't even get a table during weekends!

I hope Fwu Sheng will not miss our local food too much! Well, i will definitely be back for more good foods!

Weekend Outing a.k.a Food Hunting !

The special one was in town during last long weekend. Apart from the shopping, movie and concert that we went to, we had also tried out a few of new eateries and some of re-visit restaurants/shops....

Restoran Wei Sun

No.47, Grd Floor, Jalan 9/62A, Bdr Manjalara, Kepong

We were here for this - signature Liquor Loh Mee

RM13 - small portion

It was so famous because of the added liquor as compared to the normal version loh mee.

The gravy was very good, especially with the hint of liquor. But i found the noodles a bit too dull and there was not much ingredients given.... a few small abalone pieces and shrimps added in...that's all!

Snowy Tofu - RM12

Came in 4 pieces

Very good version of home made fried tofu, silky soft in the inside and crunchy outside,

dipped into the accompanied sweet & sour sauce...Yummy ~~~~

Another specialty - Crispy Salted Chicken

It was featured as their signature dish in newspapers review, but we felt it was way a bit salty...

We were in the mood for some soup so we ordered this - Sai Yong Choy soup

The pot is very very small, but was laden with enough ingredients that made it sweet.

It took more than 20 minutes for this to arrive, which we think they might have ordered it from some other shops and sold it in their shops for some extra charges????

It was a rainy day...perfect for a good bowl of teochew porridge
We had the braised duck, mushrooms, salted vege, tofu, intestines and peanuts



This is good!
We like the braised sauce so much that we mixed with our plain white porridge
Duck meat was braised until tender and it has absorbed the secret sauce so perfectly!





I love this
Very chewy..QQ flavour
A good version of braised intestines that seldom we can find elsewhere...

We ordered their signature wat tan hor with ginger fish slices
I really like their gravy which was so thicky and with generous amount of eggs
Fish slices were fresh and the flat noodles were aromatic too!





This restaurant is famous for the porridge too and so we ordered Pork rib with century eggs porridge - RM7.80
Porridge was cooked until perfectly moist, with big chunk of pork rib and century eggs....
Definitely worth the money we paid for!




Restoran Yut Kee - Dang Wangi

He was craving for some chicken chop so we headed to this famous hainanese eatery for a good plate of this....

Chicken Chop - RM9.00

Very tender and juicy...like the gravy and the potato wedges very much...

Very nostalgic!

Pork chop - RM9.00

I found the pork chop a bit normal and not that juicy as compared to the earlier, but he liked it though..... It came with 2 pieces of pork chop of which each size of the meat is comparable to the 1 piece of chicken chop....guess ordering pork chop here is more worthy???

Hailam Fried Noodles - RM5.30

Laden with some pork strips, sotong and PORK LARDS!

Something like hokkien mee but without the black soya sauce...

Very aromatic, got the "wok-hei"....but mind you it's a bit oily and high cholestrol because of the pork lard la.....

Super Noodle House - Sungei Wang Plaza

We were at Golden Triangle and visited this restaurant:

- he saw many patrons visited this eatery everytime he passed by so he wanted to try

- the last time i visited was more than 8 years ago, i still remember my dad used to bring us to this restaurant whenever we visited Sungei Wang Plaza when we were still in teenage years!

Roast Pork and BBQ Pork rice

The rice portion was very small, came with a medium portion of charsiew and siew yok...

Not too bad...the siew yok was a good combination of lean and fatty meat, charsiew was very Q and flavourful too!

艇仔粥 - RM7.00

Unsatisfied!

Not a good version of cantonese congee, not moist enough and it tasted so plain...i kept on adding the soya sauce to enhance the flavour...

Double boiled Pigeon soup - RM10.00

Very sweet! Whole pigeon with some chinese herbs...

All i can say is worth it...

Lotus root soup - RM8.30

See the wholesome of goodness in this little container...

Enjoyable to the last drop....

We spent quite a bit on the above, not mentioning some lunches/dinners that we went but i didn't manage to take photo...Well, i think it is not about the money... it is the precious time that we spent together that i feel is priceless.... Arghhh...gotta wait another 3 more weeks to see him again!

Margaret Drive Food Centre, Singapore

Been wanted to explore the nice eateries around Singapore, be it local foodcourt or restaurants in malls. This was the 2nd time i was at Margaret Drive Food Centre. Been requesting the special one to bring me there again after hearing from him that there are many nice and affordable foods such as beef noodles, shanghai dumplings, chicken rice, popiah, claypot chicken rice (which i tried before) and so on..... Oh well, i was in Singapore during my long holiday break last month and only able to blog about it now! Haha....

This is the stall selling the famous popiah

Simple setup, managed by husband and wife

SGD1.20 per piece

Not bad. Not too dry. I like the taste!

Popiah skin is soft and supple, generous amount of ingredients (same ingredients that you could find in our local version popiah)....

Xin Ji Chicken Rice stall

Situated at the 2nd floor of the food centre. Very well known among floggers in Singapore. The stall is a bit aging, but this "age" will definitely added on to the better taste of foods served...

I am not an avid fan of chicken rice and i normally do not order chicken rice when i eat out. I was at this food centre during last visit for the claypot chicken rice and saw many patrons ordering this chicken rice...and i thought, why not give it a try when i am in Singapore again?

The experience of having chicken rice here was indeed wonderful. We ordered half chicken with 2 plates of rice, and managed to wallop it to the last piece! This version of chicken rice has got its own "kick". The aroma of the rice, the juiciness of the flesh, the generous amount of chilli and ginger paste provided.... Wonderful!

By the way, i was surprised as they do serve black soya sauce (the thicker type) for chicken rice in Singapore, and was told that it should be mixed together with the chili..but i found thid combination weird!

Overall a very good plate of chicken rice which i would recommend. It reminds me of the hainanese style of chicken rice...

Apart from sightseeing and beach "sun-burning", we also tried out some local foods and other cuisines offered in Bali....

The famous Made's Warong which is so hit among floggers. It offers both local Bali cuisines and western foods...

Similar to Msia version of rojak. The peanut gravy is thicker and loaded with peanuts

A bit at the drier side, but overall fit my expectation....

Basically is like "chap-fan" in balinese style...some of the side dishes were great but some were not..

I think the Bumbu Bali in Puchong serves a better version..haha....

Not sure what is gerang asem but it tasted good! Something different as compared to our normal chinese way of cooking duck.... The soup tasted slurpingly sweet too....

Very filling breakfast from Bali Dynasty Resort

I miss their pancake very much!

How can we miss the famous Ibu Oka Babi Guling @ Ubud

Crispy pork skin, soft flesh...comes with intestine roll...

I personally found this dish to be nothing extraordinary but it would definitely fit to be a must-try food in Bali due to its name "Babi Guling" - like the pig is being "guling guling"....haha...

Well, overall it's still a pretty decent dish worth a try....

Sunset dinner at Jimbaran

Every friend i asked about Jimbaran, they will say "Go one time enough already!"

Oh well, i have the same idea too...

The seafood dish is overpriced and nothing spectacular, normal grilled stuff....but people is flocking there (especially first timer) just for the sake of experiencing the nice environment....

As i mentioned, 1 time with your dear one is really enough...don't think you want to burn a hole in your pocket for the second time unless you are willing to do so!

Nice pizza, but the crust was a little bit of letdown la....

Bali is a paradise if you ask me....there is so many more for us to explore. We will definitely be back soon!
