Early Xmas + Food Hunt @ Singapore

Spent another amazing weekend in Singapore again..this time managed to hunt for more great foods and experienced the dazzling wonderful xmas lightup!! Let's start off with the glorious food hunt......
~~ Changi Airport ~~

I grab something for lunch before headed to city upon arrival in Changi. There's a food centre at Terminal 3 which serves a lot of local foods. Decided to have something light so i ordered this...
Fish sliced beehoon - SGD4.50
I expected something normal but it turned out to be great!
The soup was clear and very sweet by the time i first sipped on it...generous amount of fish slices and it's soft and fresh too....
Definitely a great place for some decent meal in airport....

~~ Citylink, City Hall MRT Station ~~
The Coffee Conneuisseur a.k.a TCC
Got some time to kill before dinner so grabbed my coffee at TCC
I know this cafe serves a variety of "artistic" coffee so decided to try it out...
Ordered a latte with azuki beans (ie red beans)..very good experience ... surprisingly azuki was blended well with the latte..creamy yet lovely ~~

~~ Chinatown = Niu Zhe Shui ~~

Special request to the special one - bring me to try the Frog Porridge...
So we went to Chinatown to try this famous delicacy...
Kung Po Frog - SGD 8 (only 1 frog in the claypot ehh...)
Braised tofu - SGD3.00. Plain porridge per bowl - SGD1.20. Fried "Tai Cheong" and Yaocharkwai - forgot the price.
The rule of eating this is to mix the Kungpo sauce with the porridge, and it has to be that way as the porridge was really plain and no taste...haha....
But this is a very nice combination i should say, although i mumbled that the SINGLE portion of frog was way too little....only got a few tiny morsels of it...
The other side dishes were very good as well...braised tofu was soft and flavorful, fried Taicheong was crispy and best eaten with the porridge too...

~~ Chinatown Food centre, Smith street ~~

This stall got a long q so i followed and try it...
Mix of yam cake+cheecheongfun - SGD2.00
This was good, coupled with the sweet and spicy sauce...something different with KL version
Fish slice porridge - SGD 3.00 - a bit letdown cos it tasted "fishy"....

Such a long q for this...SGD1.50
I like the way they mixed with the fried tiny anchovies and peanuts...very aromatic!
Glutinous rice was perfectly sticky too....

"Shui Kweh" - SGD1.00 for 4 pieces
Simple delicacy made from water and rice flour...eat it with the fried "choy pou" and chili....
Very savoury...i even mixed the choy pou with the fish porridge and it tasted better this way!

~~ Sim Lim Square Food Centre ~~

I readed some blogs and know that Sim Lim square apart from being a place selling IT stuff (something like our Low Yat Plaza), its food centre is famous for some local foods as well, such as this stall selling minced meat noodle....
What makes it special is the slice of abalone that they thrown in...that's why it's called Abalone Bak Chor Mee - SGD4.00 per bowl
I tried this with great expectations after seeing the long q and the articles pasted at the storefront, but ended up disappointed!
The noodles were so bland, seasoning was not my fave too....
I heard it's used to be a good one but maybe the quality has deteriorated...

~~ Selegie Road ~~

This is the very famous Taufoofah and soya bean in the island...
Taufoofah was smooth and it melted easily too...
Soya bean was ok as well....
They have a few branches in the island but not sure where exactly...

~~ MOS Burger @ Scotts Isetan ~~

Finally got my craving for MOS Burger answered...
Always heart their rice burger version and this time i ordered Unagi rice burger
As expected, moistful, juicy and delicious rice burger ever!

~~ Chinatown ~~

Had some desserts at night at Chinatown
Sago pomelo with mango - SGD3.50
Black sesame tongsui - SGD2.50
Bak Chang - SGD - 4.00
Everything was good i would say...the desserts were not too sweet, just the right sweetness that we liked it. The bakchang was aromatic with generous chunks of walnut, yellow bean and pork.

~~ Hong Lim Food Centre ~~

Queue again!!!!!

Queue for this!
Raisin cheese bun - SGD 1.30 per piece
Soft and irressitable...can't really stop after the 1st bite!

Tai Hwa's Minced meat noodles ie Mee Pok (or Bak chor mee??) is one of the most famous in Singapore, and it was really indeed a lot more different from the one that we tried at Sim Lim food centre...Just look at the few awards cert that they show in front of the stall...
Now i know the secret behind the Bak chor mee is the vinegar that they mixed in, never eat something like this other than Loh Mee. Noodles were QQ, ingredients were fresh (they only cooked the minced meat when orders made), soup was slurpingly delicious...
At SGD 5 for a big bowl version, we got extra home-made dumplings and meat balls which i liked very much!
A good and satisfying bowl of noodles before i departed from the island....
Ok, that's all about food. What is Xmas in Singapore without the Xmas tree and lightup?? Let's see their amazing decorations!

Fun Taipei Tea Cafe @ SS2

Having heard of Fun Taipei Tea Cafe, an eatery specialised in taiwanese cuisine. Their first outlet located at Pudu and a few others branches, 1 of the branches i know of is only at Wangsa Maju. Was cracking head on what to have for dinner with YE until she suggeted to try Fun Taipet at SS2, a newly opened outlet of this chain of restaurant....

Both of us have never visited this restaurant and so we decided to order something familiar....
蛤仔面线 - RM6.50
I seldom gave a bad comment about a particular food but this was a real let down....
Soggy and the oyster was so "lembik" and when i chewed it i really feel like throwing up!
Just finished the noodles without the oyster though...
Prefers the version served by Fong-Lye...
三杯鸡饭套餐- RM14.50
Came with soup, 2 side dishes, the main dish and a bowl of white rice
The 三杯鸡 was good...cooked in a very thick sauce with generous amount of 九层塔...sweet and yummy...
A better dish to outweigh the previous one...haha...

卤味拼盘 - RM13.00
A plate of braised 3 layer pork, tofu, egg and seaweed
Not too bad....

Located opposite McDonald, same row as Pelita Nasi Kandar
I personally feel that it's a bit pricy but this will be a rather good place for some 'yumcha' session...

Fullhouse @ Jalan Yap Kwan Seng

First heard about Fullhouse Lifestyle Store and Cafe many months back. First outlet located at Ara Damansara, a place which is very crowded in my opinion....It has opened another outlet near my office at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng opposite the Old Town kopitiam. Not sure whether this is a new outlet or the first one in Ara Damansara is closed?????

Was very eager to try it out after knowing it has opened its door during end of November 2009. Not many people know it has opened by then so visitors were lesser...Fullhouse is famous for its cosy and "white-y" ambience...something like fairy tale....and i like it's environment which is very ideal for some chit-chat and get-together....

Was there with Sheng for dinner, both of us decided to have a light meal so we were sharing these...
Mushroom soup - RM8.90
Very rich in flavour and i like the strong hints of mushroom, it would be better if the soup is thicker!

Lavender Lemon Blended - RM6.90
Honey Milk Ice - RM5.90
The lavender lemon blended was very appetising, but a bit too sweet for me though....

Rome Salad - RM12.90
Crunchy salad with smoked salmon, but we felt that the salmon slice portion given was way too stingy...haha....

Club Sandwich - RM13.90
Toasted sliced bread with cheese, ham, vege and chicken strips
Quite a filling sandwich
Paid another visit here again for lunch with my other team member, opted to try their set lunch which range from RM13.90 - RM18.90, comes with mushroom soup, ice lemon tea, a main course and pastry....A very filling set lunch if you ask me!!!

Honestly their ice lemon tea was very very nice! And big glass too!

1 of the main course
Spaghetti......can't remember the name
A bit watery but tasted fine...no complain from TW

Another main course
Something cooked with dory fish
accompanied by mashed potato and some wild mushroom
Love the gravy very much...very gingery...
Dory fish was fresh and aromatic too....

The desserts - small pieces of cakes
We got macha, blueberry, chocolate and mango mousse
Not too bad but we were a bit too full to indulge on this....

It does provide car jockey service due to limited parking space available. FOC during opening period but not sure whether they will impose charges in future.... I am sure this place will become another favourite hang out place for our office mate ~~
