My Farewell Treat (III)

Knowing me leaving KL soon to Singapore for good, Joey came to look for me for lunch last Thursday, together with Mandy. We were at Pasarakyat to savour our favourite dish, steam fish head!

It took quite some time for the food to arrive so we had a piece of fried Nian Gao. This stall selling fried Nian Gao is very famous, it was previously located at Imbi Restoran Wing Heng Seng. I saw they were having brisk business as many people queing to buy it after having meals...
I am a fan of fried Nian Gao but never dare to have much due to its high level of fats. This piece cut into 4 quarters was perfect! Like its crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's actually a very big piece of fried Nian Gao itself. Lucky it's shared among 3 of us...

Their famous dish
Steam fish head 清蒸鱼头
Love its simplicity, dash of soya sauce with hints of chinese wine and lots of cili padi...
Fish head was steamed perfectly and quite fresh... Lots of Omega too!

We also had veges, 三皇蛋 and 蒸猪肉
While veges were just normal, the steamed egg was very soft. Wonder what's the trick behind. The 蒸猪肉was mixed with some salted fish. I didn't have too much of it cos i didn't have rice that day so eating it on its own was very salty ..

3 of us managed to finish the fish head, and "almost" finish the rest. 4 dishes for 3 of us were a little bit too much actually..haha
Thanks Joey for your treat!

Breakfast @ Imbi Market

It was Fwu Sheng's last day in office today. We were in the mood (with ManMan of course!) for some nice breakfast and so we headed to Imbi Market for their nice and value-for-money breakfast. I have heard about the fame of this market which is very famous with its kopitiam and hawker breakfast. Finally managed to visit this morning...
It was a rainy morning and i did not get the chance to "tour" around the market to find out what is being offered. Let ManMan make the decision to order....

These were what we ordered
for the 3 of us
Like my coffee C very much...very smooth and with strong coffee taste too!

猪杂粥 from next stall
Look at how smooth the porridge is...with generous amount of ingredients, especially the fried 猪肠...aromatic!

I love this
Toasted bun with kaya and butter
The butter has already melted and absorbed into the bread by the time it reached our table
Soft and fluffy ~~
Very very delicious!
I always prefer toasted bun as compared to sliced bread ^_^

Chee Cheong Fun from next stall
the chee cheong fun itself was real good, accompanied with the sweet sauce and chilli...Yum Yum!
But the stuffed okra was a let down...very hard to bite la!

Operating a kopitiam from this little store....
It's a little gem...

This is 1 of the few kopitiam in the Imbi market, the other kopitiam is as crowded as this one....i heard business is better if not because of the rainy days....you can't even get a table during weekends!
I hope Fwu Sheng will not miss our local food too much! Well, i will definitely be back for more good foods!

Weekend Outing a.k.a Food Hunting !

The special one was in town during last long weekend. Apart from the shopping, movie and concert that we went to, we had also tried out a few of new eateries and some of re-visit restaurants/shops....

Restoran Wei Sun
No.47, Grd Floor, Jalan 9/62A, Bdr Manjalara, Kepong

We were here for this - signature Liquor Loh Mee
RM13 - small portion
It was so famous because of the added liquor as compared to the normal version loh mee.
The gravy was very good, especially with the hint of liquor. But i found the noodles a bit too dull and there was not much ingredients given.... a few small abalone pieces and shrimps added in...that's all!

Snowy Tofu - RM12
Came in 4 pieces
Very good version of home made fried tofu, silky soft in the inside and crunchy outside,
dipped into the accompanied sweet & sour sauce...Yummy ~~~~

Another specialty - Crispy Salted Chicken
RM20
It was featured as their signature dish in newspapers review, but we felt it was way a bit salty...
Average

We were in the mood for some soup so we ordered this - Sai Yong Choy soup
RM3.80
The pot is very very small, but was laden with enough ingredients that made it sweet.
It took more than 20 minutes for this to arrive, which we think they might have ordered it from some other shops and sold it in their shops for some extra charges????

SS2 Fatty Duck Teochew Porridge
Same row as Kayu Nasi Kandar at Chow Yang SS2

RM20++
It was a rainy day...perfect for a good bowl of teochew porridge
We had the braised duck, mushrooms, salted vege, tofu, intestines and peanuts

This is good!
We like the braised sauce so much that we mixed with our plain white porridge
Duck meat was braised until tender and it has absorbed the secret sauce so perfectly!

I love this
Very chewy..QQ flavour
A good version of braised intestines that seldom we can find elsewhere...

Restoran Pan Heong
Batu Caves

Was here for this
"Wat Tan Hor" - RM12
We ordered their signature wat tan hor with ginger fish slices

I really like their gravy which was so thicky and with generous amount of eggs
Fish slices were fresh and the flat noodles were aromatic too!

This restaurant is famous for the porridge too and so we ordered Pork rib with century eggs porridge - RM7.80
Porridge was cooked until perfectly moist, with big chunk of pork rib and century eggs....
Definitely worth the money we paid for!

Restoran Yut Kee - Dang Wangi

He was craving for some chicken chop so we headed to this famous hainanese eatery for a good plate of this....
Chicken Chop - RM9.00
Very tender and juicy...like the gravy and the potato wedges very much...
Very nostalgic!

Pork chop - RM9.00
Similar condiments and gravy with chicken chop
I found the pork chop a bit normal and not that juicy as compared to the earlier, but he liked it though..... It came with 2 pieces of pork chop of which each size of the meat is comparable to the 1 piece of chicken chop....guess ordering pork chop here is more worthy???

Hailam Fried Noodles - RM5.30
Laden with some pork strips, sotong and PORK LARDS!
Something like hokkien mee but without the black soya sauce...
Very aromatic, got the "wok-hei"....but mind you it's a bit oily and high cholestrol because of the pork lard la.....
Super Noodle House - Sungei Wang Plaza

We were at Golden Triangle and visited this restaurant:
- he saw many patrons visited this eatery everytime he passed by so he wanted to try
- the last time i visited was more than 8 years ago, i still remember my dad used to bring us to this restaurant whenever we visited Sungei Wang Plaza when we were still in teenage years!

Roast Pork and BBQ Pork rice
RM9.00
The rice portion was very small, came with a medium portion of charsiew and siew yok...
Not too bad...the siew yok was a good combination of lean and fatty meat, charsiew was very Q and flavourful too!

艇仔粥 - RM7.00
Unsatisfied!
Not a good version of cantonese congee, not moist enough and it tasted so plain...i kept on adding the soya sauce to enhance the flavour...

Double boiled Pigeon soup - RM10.00
Very sweet! Whole pigeon with some chinese herbs...
All i can say is worth it...

Lotus root soup - RM8.30
See the wholesome of goodness in this little container...
Enjoyable to the last drop....

We spent quite a bit on the above, not mentioning some lunches/dinners that we went but i didn't manage to take photo...Well, i think it is not about the money... it is the precious time that we spent together that i feel is priceless.... Arghhh...gotta wait another 3 more weeks to see him again!

Hi Tea @ Jogoya

Was on my 1 month holiday break until early November....hehe....got to know that Jogoya is having a promotion for ladies, the second ladies only need to pay RM19.90++. So i drag Esther who is on holiday too to have our feast! We went during hi tea which is from 2pm to 4.20 pm. Altogether was only RM101, ie approx RM50 per pax. I think this is at a steal given the foods served that are the same with dinner time. I think i do not need to blog more about Jogoya anymore since many would have visited this famous buffet Japanese restaurant. Let's see what we had....

Thai coconut which is a must!

Oysters!

Assorted sashimi
I wallop a lot of salmon which i think it will costs more than RM50 if we had it outside...hehe...

Ebi Tempura
How can me miss this

We just love their assortment of desserts and the coffee
The cheese cake is great!

Haagen Dazs unlimited refill of ice cream!

Satisfied!
Worth every single cent!
Time for more exercise after the indulgence...haha....

Charn Kee Tasty Corner @ Jalan Alor

Was supposed to bring the special one to try the famous Meng Kee Char Siew at Tengkat Tong Shin. Unfortunately it has been relocated to Jalan Alor next to Hotel Nova, and it was closed on the Saturday that we went. No choice so we hunted for nice food around Jalan Alor and we bumped into Charn Kee Tasty Corner, which i remembered it was featured in a particular good guide.

This eatery has been established for almost 19 years. Really couldn't notice it as it only opens for breakfast and lunch, and Jalan Alor most happening time is at night...

Claypot Seafood Noodles - RM5 +

Comes with the handmade fish paste and prawns....

Claypot Fish Paste Kuayteow soup - RM5+

Similar to the earlier version, i found the soup is real clear and suits to my liking. The soup is very fragrant and blends perfectly with the kuayteow.

Handmade fish paste is silky smooth, and 爽口

~ Superb ~

We ordered side orders too
Special homemade Pork Meatballs and Dumplings
RM0.80 each
Dumplings are just normal but the pork meat balls are something worth trying....

They also serves many other types of noodles such as nyonya curry noodles which is claimed to be very delicious too...
Maybe can try in next visit....
Definitely an eatery worth visiting

Add: 35 Jalan Alor, 50200 KL.

Opening hours: 7.30 am - 4.30 pm (closed every Monday)

Sun Foong Bakuteh @ Imbi

Brought the special one to try our local bakuteh ("BKT"). Just to let him compare and see whether KL or Singapore's BKT is more delicious. We were at Pavilion on a particular weekend so the nearest BKT place would be Imbi area. Was planning to go Yuk Yat BKT but no idea where it has shifted, we diverted to Sun Foong BKT instead....

I always noticed this BKT place is packed with tourist. Guess they have special package/plan with travel agency. This shop has never been my favourite BKT place due to its pricing, but it has been many years since i last visited so finally decided to settle our dinner there....

Tofu pok
A standard accompaniment in any BKT

The signature BKT
RM23 for this pot
A mixture of pork and the "spare parts"
Soup was rich, thick and very herbal. And we can get refill of the soup as well...
Not disappointing

Ordered a plate of stir fried Yau Mak to go with the BKT

The meal costs us approximately RM40-50, inclusive of chinese tea.
I think is a bit pricy for BKT, probably this shop is more focus towards tourists rather than locals...
Still prefer Teo Chew style BKT that i tried in Kepong before and the price is very reasonable too. Gonna bring him there next time... hehe....
