Restoran Taiping Lang @ Puchong Jaya

It's been a travelling month for me, travelling here and there to client's office, which are all a bit distance from my office. A bit tiring, but it's fun to have the opportunity to savour nice foods at those areas.....
Latest frequent area is Puchong, which is about half an hour drive from KL (if no traffic jam). A few colleagues staying here too, and i have a client here which i need to visit every year during this period. Puchong folks are very lucky, many nice eateries around and my team has difficulty making decision where to have breakfast and lunch during their engagement period here!
I was there on last Tuesday and brought them to a restaurant which i didn't visit since a year ago....

Stepping into the restaurant is like walking down memory lane...Nostalgic feeling as many antiques are used as decorative items...

Info from www.taipinglang.com

Restoran Taiping Lang serves northern Malaysian-Hokkien home style cooking. Each menu has four main sets, which we named Ah Mah’s Banquets. We strongly recommend these sets for your best savouring experience in Restoran Taiping Lang. Each set is presented with combinations of different dishes and the blending of tastes – such as spicy with savoury, sour with sweet, strong with delicate. We also serve our dishes a la carte, you can choose any dishes from the main sets or our daily side dishes.

Three different sets of menus – “T”, “P”, “L” are rotated every two days for you to relish greater varieties of grandma’s recipes.

Restoran Taiping Lang serves homestyle and simple foods, and has earned reputations among foodies and neighbourhood. They have been featured many times in local newspapers and food programmes...

Featured in Taiwan's food programme too...which so happened i watched it too!

Enough about the fame. Let's move on to food review ~~~
5 of us, we ordered 2 sets for 2 pax each, and ala carte of 2 more side dishes

Hong Ba
Pork stewed with mushroom and spices
Pork was cooked until very tender, not too salty

Bangkuang Cha
"Sengkuang" shredded and fried with cuttlefish, with dried prawns and some other ingredients.
They provided some leafy to wrap together with this. Simple yet aromatic, easily our favourite dish here.....

Achat
Spicy pickled vegetables
Crunchy veges, like the generous amount of sesame and peanuts sprinkled.
Some find it too spicy, but i couldn't stop munching on this....

Gulai Hu
Fish curry
Thick curry paste, sour and spicy enough...

Ba Kian
Fried pork sausages - nyonya style
This was delish, identical in taste to "lo bak" in Penang. A very good version of marinated minced meat roll....

Kiam Chai Buey
Mixed vegetable stew - sour
Sourness "ngam-ngam" for us

Cincalok Ba
Pork stir-fried with cincalok shrimps
This dish ended up being left out, probably my team did not really fancy the taste of cincalok....
A pretty normal dish indeed...

Soup of the day, which is part of the lunch set...

You can choose either rice or porridge to go with the dishes, and it's free refill....

Something extraordinary that we never see before, recommended by the waitress....
A type of fish, fried and stuffed with shrimp sambal....

Looks like this...
The fish skin is a bit hard and Mint who is from Taiping told us that normally no one will eat the skin. We like the sambal very much, and it tasted better when mixed with the fish meat.
Amazing....

Leng-Kak-Chee Leong Fun
Cincau drink with soaked basil seeds (biji selasih)
A very refreshing drink! A hit with me!

Rojak as desserts for us
RM 5 for this
3 variety of items, which i think is a bit little. Like the way they serve the rojak paste separately, a lot of sesame added, and the paste was very thick and flavourful too...
Our bill came to about RM90++, prices are a lil bit on high side given the portion size. But honestly, a visit here is worth, given the quality of foods and nostalgic sense...
